The first stage of any osteopathic treatment is
a consultation covering all aspects concerned with the horse's history,
namely antecedents such as disease, surgical intervention, feeding,
worming programmes, traumatization, ...
The osteopath then carries out a physical examination
looking for symptomatic spasm, restriction of mobility and / or
pain caused by structural abnormalities in the musculoskeletal system.
Finally, the primary cause is sought with reference to a single
or combination of three possible sources:
Parietal system:
the osteoarticular system formed by the bones, muscles,
tendons, articulations, vertebral column.
Viscera system:
constituting the internal organs, neurovascular system and
lymphatic system.
Cranio-sacral system:
constituting the cranium, the vertebral column,
the cerebrospinal liquid, the membranes and the neurological
system together with all its functions.
During the physical examination stage the osteopath
diagnoses with the use of his / her hands to ascertain where the
probleme lies.
The mobility of the muscles and joints is then
reestablished using both manipulation techniques and soft tissue
techniques to repair the harmony between the three above systems.
This gives the body the posibility:
to function as a BIOLOGICAL ENTITY
to utilize the relation STRUCTURE-FUNCTION: "the structure
directs the function and the function creates the structure"
(A.T. STILL)
to be SELF-REGULATORY and SELF-HEALING through a complex equilibrium
system
